Overview

Shipyarddoor® specializes in customized vertical fold-up aircraft hangar doors designed to meet the high demands of aviation operations. Traditional sliding doors posed issues like heavy maintenance and structural complexity, while Shipyarddoor's modern solutions offer large, efficient, low-maintenance alternatives—up to 50 meters wide in a single piece. With extensive experience in airport applications, Shipyarddoor delivers reliable and time-saving hangar door systems tailored to the industry's needs.

Comprised of

  • 24/7 Operations:
Despite their massive size, Shipyarddoor® flexible giant hangar doors are engineered for continuous 24/7 operation. This is made possible by high-resistance industrial fabrics and a durable gearbox system that ensures long-term, reliable performance
  • Key Advantages:
Unlike conventional hangar doors, our system requires no bottom rails, no large side pockets, and no heavy structural reinforcements. This design minimizes maintenance needs, maximizes usable hangar space, and significantly reduces operational costs and time—offering savings for both your budget and the environment.
  • Superior Sealing:Our hangar doors feature a unique side sealing pocket—unlike other fold-up doors. The heavy-duty PVC-coated fabric ensures a tight seal, even under strong wind conditions, while also enabling quiet, vibration-free operation.
  • Low Maintenance:
The Flexible Giant doors are built for zero-special-maintenance operation. All components are carefully selected for durability and simplicity—there are no springs, ball bearings, or couplings that can fail in the event of impact or collision.
  • Maximum Dimensions:
There are no size limitations. Shipyarddoor® hangar doors can be manufactured to any dimension required, with or without mullion supports, and fully tailored to the specific needs of your aircraft facility.
  • Steel Structure:
The hangar doors are constructed from two fabric sections that fold in opposite directions, securely fastened to horizontal beams made from extruded aluminum (T 6063-T6 series). With a minimum door thickness of 380 mm—an exclusive feature—these doors offer enhanced strength and insulation. Intermediate beams are motorized for smooth retraction and equipped with durable, wind-resistant tires, ensuring easy operation even in harsh conditions. When retracted, the beams do not obstruct the full clear opening, maintaining maximum usable space.
  • Bottom Beams:
The bottom beam is specifically designed to withstand wind loads, door dimensions, and the weight of intermediate steel beams during operation. It also ensures complete closure and superior sealing performance, even under heavy wind conditions.
  • Side Guides:
Extruded aluminum side guides are integrated into the door system, offering full wind-load transfer to the jamb support and weather sealing on both sides. Guides are easily replaceable and installed using approved structural fasteners.
  • Cable System:
Doors operate with up to two internal steel cables per unit. Sheaves are minimized for lower maintenance and placed in accessible areas. System design prevents cable stress, abrasion, or wear during operation.
  • Fabric:
    Durable, UV-resistant fabric is standard. Optional Arctic Fabric provides sound insulation and extreme weather performance.VALMEX POLYMAR® | 900–1500 g/m² | 2 mm | 1100 Dtex |Tensile Strength: 4300/4000 N (DIN 53354)Tear Strength: 500/500 N (DIN 53363)
  • Fire Resistance:
Meets DIN 4102-B1 standard. Fabric is self-extinguishing and fire-retardant, compliant with all aviation safety regulations.
  • Sealing:
Bottom beam uses U-shaped rubber seals. Side guides feature rubber or brush seals. All sealing materials are rated for extreme temperature and weather conditions.
  • Insulation:
    U-value < 0.9 W/m²·K for thermal insulation.Optional insulated fabric available.Sound attenuation: 12 dB(A)
  • Wind Resistance:
Standard doors resist winds up to 180 km/h when closed, 140 km/h operationally. Custom solutions withstand up to 230 km/h (hurricane standard).
